Solid Sawn Timbers
While engineered wood such as Glulam and Parallam® offer a reliable alternative to large dimensional lumber that's in short supply, there are many people who prefer the aesthetics of solid timber. Traditional solid sawn lumber is still a very popular choice for builders primarily due to familiarization with the product and the lower cost. The manufacturing processes required for glulam and Parallam® add costs, making engineered wood more expensive per lineal foot than traditional sawn lumber.
