The Quality Tech is responsible for monitoring and following all SMTU quality procedures. The Quality Tech
will perform QC testing, document preparation, site monitoring, and participate in continuous-improvement
initiatives.
Accountabilities: Operational
• Be a part of a Quality Management System, adhering to APA, ANSI, AITC standards
• Perform and document daily destructive testing of sample products including but not limited to:
o Block shear performance testing
o Cyclic Delamination accelerated aging testing
o Tensile strength load testing
• Perform spot checks to verify manufacturing processes and plant conditions are properly met
• Prepare deficiency reports and co-design procedures to prevent deficiencies
• Represent SMTU to liaise with certifying agencies, such as The Engineered Wood Association (APA), to
ensure compliance with the various manufacturing standards
• Communicate with Supervisors and team leads to review any quality issues and non-conformances on
shop floor
• Perform site visits / inspections with SMTU team when required
• Participate in training sessions to update knowledge base regarding new product and technologies
• Perform due diligence if the manufacturing process is found to be compromised
• Assume QC related duties, as needed, to ensure the Quality Control Program requirements are met on
site

Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Post-secondary education in relevant fields preferred:
o Wood products processing or wood-science background
o Material engineering background
o Chemistry / Chemical engineering studies, with emphasis on polymer adhesives
• Proficiency in use of MS Office software suite
• Prior experience in manufacturing or construction is recommended
