The uniquely curved glulam arches at the Michael Smith Laboratories reflect the innovation being achieved by the biotechnology lab. The glulam arches were manufactured from one of kind Douglas-fir trees. Precision 3D CAD software that interacts with computer-driven machinery was used to ensure flawless beams, that were then trial fitted prior to shipping. Seamless connectors create smooth lines while clear adhesive and stain maintain the warmth of natural wood, offset by shining steel and glass.
Working with Structurlam on the UBC Brock Commons project was an absolute joy. Their attention to detail with respect to complex machining tolerances and logistics made for a very smooth procurement process.Robert Jackson, Structural Project Engineer for the Brock Commons Phase 1 Building, Fast + Epp, Vancouver, BC
