On the beautiful grounds of the University of British Columbia (UBC), a groundbreaking project has officially wrapped construction.

Virtuoso, located in UBC’s Wesbrook Village, is the first market condominium project in North America to use cross-laminated timber (CLT).

Mass timber meets or exceeds building with concrete in many areas. It is seismically superior, and doesn’t’ crack or shatter like concrete.  It is also sustainably produced, requires less energy to recycle, and since the CLT panels are pre-fabricated off-site, there is virtually no on-site waste.

On May 24th, 2018, the six-storey building was honoured for it REAP Gold Award, recongnizing its sustainable building practices.

Structurlam is proud to have been a part of this iconic project. To learn more about construction completion of Virtuoso, read Urban YVR’s article here.
